The Vitalocity! Team will present their findings from the Fall 2014 workshop, and lead a discussion regarding the findings. Project Summary/Issues In 2014, the City of Apple Valley partnered with a team of experts to help define the attributes of a "Community for A Lifetime". It became a strategy called Vitalocity!, and was the subject of a 3- day workshop held September 30 — October 2, 2014. Vitalocity! is an effort led by the private market to better incorporate aging-friendly principles into communities' social, economic, and physical infrastructure. Though other cities have created strategies for aging-friendly cities, Apple Valley is the pilot city for the Vitalocity! initiative. The initiative is led by a partnership consisting of the City in conjunction with several corporate and non-profit leaders in the field of aging. The following team members are slated to attend the joint work session: The 2014workshop, which was open to residents and businesses, was designed to help develop a "roadmap" that could be incorporated into the City's 2040 Comprehensive Guide Plan, which will be completed in 2018. Participants in the workshop identified four main areas of focus that were further broken into nine themes common to aging-friendly communities. The themes include: • Outdoor Spaces and Buildings • Communication and Information • Civic Participation and Employment Community Support and Health Services April 15, 2015 DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Community Development Department Organization Ecumen Ecumen Kendal Corporation, USA Perkins Eastman Architecture, USA Sodexo, USA Nestle, Switzerland BusinessLab, Scotland UK The partnership has developed strategies that would help Apple Valley realize a community that would be more welcoming and easier to navigate for both older and younger residents.
