HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-15-24CITY OF APPLE VALLEY LEBANON CEMETERY ADVISORY COMMITTEE October 15, 2024 Minutes of the regular meeting of the Lebanon Cemetery Advisory Committee of Apple Valley, Dakota County, Minnesota, held October 15, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Apple Valley Municipal Center. PRESENT: Nancy Anderson, Tim Anderson, Dave Brueshoff, Tanya Grawe, Alan Kohls, Jan Monro ABSENT: Dave Kurtz City staff members present were: Public Works Director Matt Saam, Streets Superintendent Jeff Lathrop, and Cemetery/Public Works Coordinator Wendy Davis 1. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 2:01 p.m. by Chair Kohls. 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA MOTION: of N. Anderson, seconded by T. Grawe approving the agenda for today’s meeting as written. Ayes - 6, Nays - 0 3. AUDIENCE – 10 MINUTES TOTAL TIME LIMIT FOR ITEMS NOT ON THIS AGENDA There was no one present to speak. 4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES – July 16, 2024 MOTION: of D. Brueshoff, seconded by T. Anderson approving the minutes of the July 16, 2024, meeting. Ayes - 6, Nays - 0 5. NEW/CONTINUED BUSINESS A. Cemetery Improvements Additional Columbarium Mr. Lathrop informed the committee that the second of four columbaria for the south shelter area will be ordered soon. Mr. Lathrop is currently working with Coldspring Granite on adding more single niches to this columbarium. The estimated time for delivery is 30 weeks from the order date, installation should be in the Spring/Summer of 2025. Cemetery Garage Mr. Lathrop stated that staff is working with Oertel Architects as well as City Engineering staff on installation of a garage building for the cemetery. The garage building will store items needed for cemetery operations. The garage building is expected to be installed in Spring / Summer of 2025. Review Policy – Dogs Allowed at Cemetery As a review, Mr. Lathrop discussed the current policy of dogs being allowed at the cemetery with signage stating that dogs must be cleaned up after and referencing the City’s leash ordinance. Over the last quarter, staff have monitored dogs at the cemetery. Staff have not reported any issues. Will continue to monitor the situation and add back to the agenda if needed. B. 3rd Quarter Activity Report 2024 MOTION: of J. Monro seconded by T. Grawe, accepting the Activity Report for Third Quarter. Ayes - 6, Nays - 0 C. Maintenance and Grounds Update Mr. Lathrop reported that burial restorations have occurred, along with seeding of burial areas. STS is completing fall cutbacks and removing weeds as well as dead flowers. The corner monuments at the cemetery were cleaned, pressure washed, and mildew was removed. The letters on the cemetery monument were also repainted. Tree work will take place in early November. There is one dead tree at the cemetery that needs removal as well as additional tree limb cleanup. Fall cleanup of leaves will also be completed in the coming weeks. D. 2025 Cemetery Committee Meeting Schedule MOTION: of T. Grawe seconded by D. Brueshoff, approving the 2025 Meeting Schedule. E. REVIEW PROPOSED REVISIONS TO PRICING FOR 2025 Ms. Davis reviewed the updates to the General Price List for 2025. A pricing survey was completed in 2023 that considered rates at area cemeteries. This year’s proposed rate increase was a 3.2% inflationary increase. MOTION: of D. Brueshoff seconded by J. Monro, approving the General Price List for 2025. Ayes- 6, Nays-0 6.
