PRESENT: Committee Chair Mark Schori; Committee Members Dave Freed, Randy Bailey, Jess Smith, and Jessica Merchant; Parks and Recreation Director Eric Carlson; Park Superintendent Steve Rother; Recreation Superintendent Nate Rosa; Recreation Facilities Manager Brian Christianson; Golf Course Manager Jim Zinck; Clubhouse Coordinator Jordan Johnson; and Administrative Coordinator Kayla Hechsel. ABSENT: Committee Members Noel Hammill and Craig Long ITEM 1. Call to Order Interim Chair Schori called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Everyone took part in the Pledge of Allegiance. ITEM 2. Election of Officers — Chair and Secretary MOTION: by Freed, seconded by Smith, approving the election of Parks & Recreation Committee officers by nomination and approval as Chair Mark Schori and Secretary Craig Long. VOTE: Yes — 5, No — 0 ITEM 3. Approval of Agenda MOTION: by Schori, seconded by Bailey, approving the Agenda as presented VOTE: Yes — 5, No — 0 ITEM 4. Audience — 10 Minutes Total Time Limit — For Items Not on the Agenda No one present to speak. ITEM 5. Approval of the January 2025 Minutes. MOTION: by Smith, seconded by Freed, to approve the January 2025 minutes as presented. VOTE: Yes — 5, No — 0 CITY OF APPLE VALLEY PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE May 1, 2025 ITEM 6.A. Agenda Items — City of Apple Valley Pedestrian/Bike Plan Update Parks & Recreation Director Carlson provided a brief update on the Apple Valley Pedestrian/Bike Plan, which is being updated by City staff and a consultant this year, ITEM 6.13. Agenda Items — 2024 Valleywood Golf Course Year End Review Golf Course Manager Jim Zinck provided a review of the 2024 golf season. He gave an overview of the irrigation system replacement and course improvement project; highlighted statistics of rounds played, annual revenue, food and beverage operation revenue, event revenue, and driving range revenue; and emphasized the new fleet of golf carts that were purchased and the new point -of -sale system that's launched. Discussions occurred about improved pace of play and increased resident use of the course and event space. Course Manager Zinck also highlighted how Valleywood serves the community by providing space and tee times at reduced fees for the local high school golf teams, the district's Nordic Ski Team, the Rotary Club, District 196 meetings, the Chamber of Commerce, and more. Committee member Bailey commended Valleywood staff on the great service the Rotary Club receives. ITEM 6.C. Agenda Items — Park Referendum Update Director Carlson provided an update on the current Parks Referendum projects, highlighting Splash Valley Water Park, the new pickleball courts and skate park at Johnny Cake Ridge Park West, the youth baseball/softball complex and surrounding park at Hayes Park, Redwood Park, Kelley Park, Cobblestone Lake Park trail resurfacing, and nine neighborhood parks (Apple Valley East, Apple Ponds, Belmont, Carrollwood, Cedar Isle, Chaparral, Cobblestone Park SE, Delaney, and Greenleaf North Parks), which are all projects scheduled to be under construction in 2025. ITEM 6.1). Agenda Items — Division Update Recreation Superintendent Nate Rosa provided an update on the Recreation Division. He emphasized the new season passes being piloted this year at Splash Valley Water Park, the launch of the Recreation Wellness Fund, and the new all -day child care offerings available this summer. Park Superintendent Steve Rother gave an update on the Park Maintenance Division. He shared that our winter skating season operated for six weeks, which is much more than last year's seven-day season. Superintendent Rother also shared that park crews are preparing for spring, which includes removing signs in preparation for the new ones to be installed, grinding stumps from ash tree removals, building a gravel bed tree nursery to begin the tree replenishment effort, preparing ballfields, and installing tennis, volleyball, and pickleball nets. He also thanked everyone who volunteers their time and effort to maintain our parks. -2of3- CITY OF APPLE VALLEY PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE May 1, 2025 These groups include our park adopters, Wings Financial volunteers, local Boy Scouts, and the Apple Valley Eco Advocates. Recreation Facilities Manager Brian Christianson provided an update on the arenas. He highlighted the Icettes Ice Show, the changeover to tennis courts at the Sports Arena, the dry floor events/rentals we have scheduled, and the spring/summer open skating opportunities at Hayes Arena. ITEM 7. Committee/Staff Discussion Items No additional items were discussed. ITEM 8. Input from Committee Members on Next Agenda Committee Member Jess Smith expressed interest in hearing more about the relationship between the City and local youth athletic associations. ITEM 9. Adjourn There being no further business, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee meeting was adjourned.
