Minutes of the special meeting of the City Council of Apple Valley, Dakota County,
Minnesota, held March 16, 1982, at 8:00 o'clock p.m. at the City Hall pursuant to
due call and notice thereof.
PRESENT: Mayor Garrison (attended at 8:27 p.m.); Councilmembers Branning, Kelly,
Overgard and Savanick; Clerk Asleson.
ABSENT: None.
Acting Mayor Kelly called the meeting to order at 8:07 p.m.
Mr. Asleson reported on the Park Director recruitment and said he has not been success-
ful in reaching an agreement with Boyd Kraemer, the recommended candidate. He reviewed
the salary and compensation package that had been discussed and said the problem is the
cost of moving and buying a house with today's interest rates. He then reviewed ex-
amples of the various costs involved. (Mayor Garrison attended at this time.)
Councilmember Overgard asked whether there were other applicants that could be in-
terviewed and said she is opposed to recruiting nationally if the position is re-
advertised. Councilmember Savanick said she believes the position should be readver-
tised.
The Council discussed the salary range and agreed the $25,000 to $35,000 range is
appropriate. The Council also discussed other benefits and the possibility of of-
fering a bridge loan and/or a second mortgage as part of a relocation package. The
Council agreed it would be desirable for the Park Director to live in the City.
Mr. Asleson said he will be talking to Mr. Kraemer again and report back to the
Council.
MOTION: of Overgard, seconded by Kelly, to adjourn. Ayes - 5 - Nays - 0.
