If needed, a work crew can inspect manholes in the area and determine if the problem is on the City line or your service line. When you call, be ready to describe where the overflow is occurring and any other details. To prevent sewer -line blockages, never pour fats, oils or grease down the drain. These materials harden and block your sewage lines, causing costly plumbing repairs to your private lines. Fats, oils, and grease also create problems for your neighbors when the blockages occur in the City's lines. Proper disposal of fats, oils and grease is easy. Just pour them into a coffee can or other durable container and place in your trash. Other problematic items include disposable wipes (also known as flushable wipes), condoms and personal hygiene products. Although these products may flush from your toilet, they cause maintenance issues in the sanitary sewer system. There are over 200 miles of sanitary sewer lines in Apple Valley. Public Works cleans approximately 113 of the sewer lines each year, but we still need your help in preventing sewer maintenance issues and backups, Routine sanitary sewer cleaning and maintenance is done on approximately 60 miles of sewer lines annually. A map of areas to be cleaned is posted on the City website, www.cityofappIevaIJey,org. Remember to keep the toilet lid down when cleaning operations are being done in your neighborhood. During cleaning operations, air can vent into a home through the sanitary sewer service line and ventilation system. A blockage in the sanitary sewer ventilation system can cause water in the toilet to bubble or spiash out of the bowl. In addition to replacing burned out bulbs, Dakota Electric repairs broken globes and adjusts the sensitivity of the light sensors SPRING STREET SWEEPING It's time to dean up the grit and road debris accumulated during the winter, The City is asking that any material on the boulevard be cleaned up and disposed of by the property owner through the trash hauler or composting on the property. Early spring rains wash organic matter such as grass, decomposed leaves, and twigs, as well as road sediment into catch basins and storm ponds. This leads to nuisance weeds, algal bloom, and sediment deltas in City ponds and lakes. The Public Works Department usually begins spring road cleanup after March 15, depending upon the weather. Areas near lakes will be swept first, followed by residential neighborhoods. This operation is typically completed by April 15, Due to the presence of snow and ice in some locations during the first round, a second round is usually necessary. Thank you for being environmentally friendly and assisting the City in protecting our ponds and lakes. If you have any questions, please contact Public Works at 952-953-2400 or ipubworks@cityofapplevalleyorg. In your memorialization planning, please consider Lebanon Cemetery of Apple Valley, located on the southeast corner of Pilot Knob Road and County Road 42. Lebanon Cemetery can provide for traditional full casket burial, or cremation memorialization through in -ground or calumbarium interment.
