HomeMy WebLinkAbout01/15/2019 CITY OF APPLE VALLEY LEBANON CEMETERY ADVISORY COMMITTEE J anuary 15, 2019 Minutes of the regular meeting of the Lebanon Cemetery Advisory Committee of Apple Valley, Dakota County, Minnesota,held January 15, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at Apple Valley Municipal Center. PRESENT: Nancy Anderson, Tim Anderson, Tanya Grawe, Jay Hoekstra, Alan Kohls ABSENT: David Brueshoff, Dave Kemp City staff inembers present were: Public Works Director Matt Saam, Cemetery Supervisor Mike Glewwe, and Cemetery/Public Works Coordinator Cheryl Groves 1. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 2:02 p.m. by Chair Kohls. 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA MOTION: of J. Hoekstra, seconded by T. Anderson, approving the agenda for today's meeting as written. Motion passed unanimously. 3. AUDIENCE— 10 MINUTES TOTAL TIME LIMIT FOR ITEMS NOT ON THIS AGENDA There was no one present to speak. 4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES—October 16, 2018 MOTION: of T. Anderson, seconded by T. Grawe, approving the minutes of the October 16, 2018,meeting with correction indicating Matt Saam as absent. Motion passed unanimously. 5. NEW/CONTINUED BUSINESS A. 2019 Goals Mr. Saam reviewed the following Master Plan goals for 2019. Decorative fence will be installed along Pilot Knob Road, Embry Path and County Road 42 connecting with the chain link at the southern boundary. A variety of tree species will be planted along the fence, and additional irrigation will be installed. A walkway is planned to be constructed from the west, across from the columbaria, to the center of the interior section, with an additional walkway, from the center to the east, planned for 2020. Also in 2019, security cameras are planned to be installed, and updating of the street lighting to LED. A private benefactor has offered to fund the construction of a ceremony shelter. Staff will be working with this individual to develop an agreement and an acceptable design. MOTION: by N. Anderson, seconded by J. Hoekstra, to approve the 2019 Goals. Motion passed unanimously. B. Maintenance and Grounds Mr. Glewwe reported a busy fourth quarter top dressing graves, trimming around monuments and doing locates for placement of new monuments and markers into November. Staff supervised installation of new chain link fence along the southern boundary, and kept roads swept during construction of the east entrance. Crews mulched graded areas with straw and watered it down to freeze over winter. There will be lots of restoration work in the spring. C. Activity Report MOTION: of T. Anderson seconded by N. Anderson, accepting the Activity Report for the Fourth Quarter and 2018, and Lot Sales and Burials Since 2000, and the Quarter Activity Comparison as submitted. Motion passed unanimously. D. 2018 Cemetery Report MOTION: by N. Anderson, seconded by J. Hoestra, to accept the 2018 Cemetery Report and request staff to submit it to City Council. Motion passed unanimously. E. Cemetery Advisory Committee Term Expirations Terms of Tanya Grawe and Jay Hoekstra expire March 1, 2019. Tanya Grawe and Jay Hoekstra have both expressed interest in serving another term. 6. COMMUNICATIONS / UPDATES Members reviewed Lebanon Cemetery article from the Winter 2018/2019 Cit.�. 7. OTHER BUSINESS 8. ADJOURN MOTION: of T. Anderson seconded by J.
