B. Maintenance and Grounds Update
Mr. Glewwe reported that maintenance work was a little behind with the very wet spring
and summer. Crews are working on restoration work behind the new curbs, grading of the
new fence area and moving pine trees on the berm. The contractor will be planting the berm
with native grasses and flowers. The irrigation system was hit twice by a contractor doing
work in the cemetery which resulted in additional repairs and restoration. Routine work in
the cemetery includes top dressing of graves and seeding, trimming of plantings, weed and
fertilizer applications, removal of unapproved memorials, locating for markers and
monument placement and interments. Items that are removed have been labeled and are
stored at the Central Maintenance Facility.
C. Cemetery Development Update
Memorial Shelter – Matt Saam, Public Works Director, reported that staff is working
through the agreement process and plan to bring to Council this fall. The design process
will take place over the winter and bid next spring with the intent of completing
construction in 2020.
Fence Installation – Mr. Saam noted that the footing foundation is in and waiting on brick
work for the pillars. A low maintenance addition of rock has been added along the bottom
of the fence. Staff are looking into installing a gate at the Pilot Knob entrance to reduce the
amount of cut through traffic from Embry Path to Pilot Knob Road.
Survey of New Areas – Mr. Saam explained that plans are being finalized to survey new
areas for inground burials to the east of the 150th Street entrance and the east side of the
center section of the cemetery. Staff have also discussed the location of an additional
boulder area and possible future columbaria locations.
