PRESENT: Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee Chair Brent Schulz; Secretary Josh Gaffke; Committee Members, Dave Freed, Noel Hammill, Matthew Hinrichs, Lisa Hiebert, and Mark Schori; Acting Parks and Recreation Director Mike Endres; Recreation Manager Susan Muelken; Valleywood Golf Course Manager Jim Zinck; Arena Manager Brian Christianson; and Administrative Coordinator Dorene Perkins Morn ABSENT: None ITEM 1. Call to Order Chair Schulz called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Everyone took part in the Pledge of Allegiance. ITEM 2. Approval of Agenda MOTION: by Hiebert, seconded by Gaffke, approving the agenda as presented. VOTE: Yes — 7, No — 0 ITEM 3. Audience — 10 Minutes Total Time Limit — For Items Not on the Agenda No one present to speak. ITEM 4. Approval of the July 2020 Minutes. MOTION: by Hammill, seconded by Schori, to approve the July 16, 2020, meeting minutes as presented. VOTE: Yes — 7, No — 0 ITEM 5.A. Agenda Items — Pickleball Status Report Acting Director Endres reported staff will be revisiting the bidding process to install new pickleball courts at Johnny Cake Ridge Park West as a result of directions from the August 26, 2020 city council meeting. ITEM 5.11. Agenda Items — Building Operations -lof2- CITY OF APPLE VALLEY PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE September 3, 2020 Recreation Manager Muelken outlined plans for the upcoming opening with limitations of the Senior Center and current operations at the Apple Valley Community Center. The Senior Center is scheduled to resume activities September 8, 2020, on a limited basis and with pre- registration for program participation. The Apple Valley Community Center has been open for business since mid -July with group size limitations and other MDH and CDC guidelines in place. ITEM 5.C. Agenda Items — Ice Rink Maintenance Costs Acting Director Endres covered the cost breakdown for ice rinks. Details were provided in the September agenda packet. Members of the Committee requested this topic be added to the November Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee's meeting agenda as an action item. ITEM 6. Agenda Items — Division Updates Division updates for Recreation, Arenas, Valleywood, and Park Maintenance were provided in the September agenda packet. Valleywood Manager Zinck was asked for a verbal recap of golf operations. Approximately 75 of the reservations are done through the online system. Cart dividers have been installed to allow two riders per cart. The course reports a good year, not only the volume of play, but also the pulling together of the employees. The year as been challenging but very rewarding. Over the previous five years a really good month would be 5,200 to 5,400 rounds. May through August 2020 the course has averaged 6,000 rounds of play per month, that's 200+ players per day. ITEM 7. Adjourn There being no further business, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee meeting was adjourned.
