HomeMy WebLinkAbout07/20/2010 MINUTES OF LEBANON CEMETERY ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING July 20, 2010 - 2:00 p.m. Apple Valley Municipal Center COMMITTEE MEMBERS PRESENT: David Brueshoff, Noel Hammill, Dave Kemp, Alan Kohls, Gary Wagner COMMITTEE MEMBERS ABSENT: Nancy Anderson, Paula Moore OTHERS PRESENT: Public Works Superintendent Mike Glewwe Cemetery/Public Works Coordinator Jean Bryant Chair Kohls called the meeting to order at 2:02 p.m. APPROVAL OF AGENDA MOTION: of Kemp, seconded by Wagner, approving the agenda for today's meeting as written. Motion passed unanimously. AUDIENCE —10 MINUTES TOTAL TIME LIMIT FOR ITEMS NOT ON THIS AGENDA There was no one present to speak. APPROVAL OF MINUTES — April 20, 2010 MOTION: of Brueshoff, seconded by Wagner, approving the minutes of the Apri120, 2010, meeting, as written. Motion passed unanimously. NEW/CONTINUED BUSINESS Activity Report Ms. Bryant reviewed the Lebanon Cemetery Activity Report for second quarter. There were 6 lot sales in the second quarter: all were to residents; 2 sales were preneed and 4 were at need. There were no niche sales, and 3 companion boulder sales. There were 10 burials, of which 5 were traditional and 5 were cremations. There were 3 transfers, no title changes, and no returns of lots to the Cemetery. Maintenance and Grounds Mr. Glewwe reported that cemetery maintenance has included top dressing and hydro- seeding of settled graves and ruts made while digging grave sites, touching up wood chips around trees, routine mowing and fertilizing, removal of unapproved memorials, and weeding and trimming plantings. The Apple Seeds, a local 4H group, planted the flowers under the flag poles. Damaged spots in the asphalt were removed and patched, followed by crack sealing and chip sealing of the asphalt. Review Web Site Ms. Bryant opened the City web site and reviewed the Lebanon Cemetery pages with the Committee. The site contains information on the Cemetery Advisory Committee, including meeting agendas and minutes. Cemetery information, burial options, and costs are posted. 2010 Budget — Capital Outlay Mr. Glewwe reviewed the capital outlay items in the 2010 budget. The pavement in the cemetery has been crack sealed and seal coated, and three benches for the columbaria area are on order. In order to include changes made with the updating of the master plan, the parking area plantings and irrigation installation are being moved to next year's budget. Master Plan Update Ms. Bryant reported Sanders, Wacker, Bergly, Inc., has provided burial projections for 2110, which was Task 1 of the scope of services. Based on having 2-3% of Dakota County burials and a 50 percent cremation rate, their recommendation is to include 8,500 total additional burials in the master plan, with 3,500 being full size traditional sites and 5,000 cremation sites. Staff requested the consultant prepare options for the master plan and present them to the Cemetery Committee at the meeting on October 19, 2010. OTHER SUSINESS City News Article Chair Kohls noted that two articles were included in the City's newsletter for Summer 2010: Lebanon Cemetery Seeks Volunteers, and Lawn Burial Options at Lebanon Cemetery.
