HomeMy WebLinkAbout04/19/2011 MINUTES OF LEBANON CEMETERY ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING April 19, 2011- 2:00 p.m. Apple Valley Municipal Center COMMITTEE MEMBERS PRESENT: Nancy Anderson, David Brueshoff, Noel Hammill, Dave Kemp, Alan Kohls, Paula Moore, Gary Wagner COMMITTEE MEMBERS ABSENT: None OTHERS PRESENT: Public Works Director Todd Blomstrom Cemetery Supervisor Mike Glewwe Cemetery/Public Works Coordinator Jean Bryant Committee Members Anderson, Brueshoff, and Kohls were sworn in by City Clerk Pamela Gackstetter. The meeting was called to order at 2:06 p.m. APPROVAL OF AGENDA MOTION: of Kemp, seconded by Brueshoff, approving the agenda for today's meeting as written. Motion passed unanimously. AUDIENCE — 10 MINUTES TOTAL TIME LIMIT FOR ITEMS NOT ON THIS AGENDA There was no one present to speak. APPROVAL OF MINUTES — January 18, 2011 MOTION: of Wagner, seconded by Moore, approving the minutes of the January 18, 2011, meeting, as written. Motion passed unanimously. NEW/CONTINUED BUSINESS Activity Report Ms. Bryant reviewed the Lebanon Cemetery Activity Report for first quarter. There were 7 sales, 6 burials, and 1 lot returned to the cemetery. Maintenance and Grounds Mr. Glewwe reported maintenance in the first quarter consisted of snow plowing, trimming planters, removing tree wrap, cutting shrubs, filling settled graves, and picking up unsightly and unapproved items. Election of Officers MOTION: of Kemp, seconded by Moore, opening the nomination for officers. Motion passed unanimously. Chair Kohls asked for nominations for Chair. Committee Member Wagner nominated Alan Kohls. Hearing no others, Chair Kohls asked for nominations for Secretary. Committee Member Wagner nominated Nancy Anderson. There were no further nominations. MOTION: of Hammill, seconded by Brueshoff, closing the nomination for the election of officers. Motion passed unanimously. MOTION: of Hammill, seconded by Brueshoff, appointing Alan Kohls Chair and Nancy Anderson Secretary of the Lebanon Cemetery Advisory Committee for 2011. Motion passed unanimously. Cemetery Master Plan Mr. Blomstrom reported the Cemetery Master Plan was presented to City Council at their informal meeting of April 14. It will be on the agenda for approval at the April 28 Council meeting. 2011 Budget Items Mr. Blomstrom presented the capital outlay items in the 2011 budget — irrigation, a concrete boulder area walkway, and a concrete walkway between Additions 11 and 12. Committee members recommended irrigation of boulevards, entrances, and main feature areas. For concrete work, they suggested using a pattern that reflects the colars and shapes of the columbaria area concrete. Changes to Regulations Staff had no changes to recommend. The Committee discussed concerns regarding older sandstone monuments that could be weakening and suggested that they be inspected annually. OTHER BUSINESS City News Article Ms. Bryant reported on the Spring 2011 Cit cemetery article. Sun-Current Article Chair Kohls reviewed this interview with him on the history of the cemetery.
