Minutes of the special meeting of the City Council of Apple Valley, Dakota County, Minnesota,
held November 13, 2012, at 3:30 o'clock p.m., at Apple Valley Municipal Center.
PRESENT: Mayor Hamann-Roland; Councilmembers Bergman, Goodwin, Grendahl, and
Hooppaw.
ABSENT: None.
City staff inembers present were: City Administrator Lawell, City Clerk Gackstetter, and Acting �
Parks and Recreation Director Adamini.
Mayor Hamann-Roland called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m. Everyone took part in the Pledge
of Allegiance to the flag.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
MOTION: of Grendahl, seconded by Hooppaw, approving the agenda for today's meeting, as
presented. Ayes - 5- Nays - 0.
AUDIENCE
Mayor Hamann-Roland asked if anyone was present to address the Council, at this time, on any
item not on this meeting's agenda. No one requested to speak.
CANVASS OF ELECTION RETURNS
Ms. Gackstetter reviewed the results of the General Election held on November 6, 2012. A total
of 29,715 ballots were cast, which represents an 84.1 percent voter turnout. A total of 2,993
absentee ballots were cast and there were 5,146 election day registrations. She thanked the
volunteers and City staff for all their help.
The Council expressed appreciation to everyone who helped prepare for and worked at the
election. They also thanked all the citizens who voted.
Councilmember Goodwin commented on the number of blank votes and under votes. He
questioned the order of the races on the ballot and stated he would prefer City Council races
appear before Soil and Water Conservation District races. He requested staff research who
determines the order of the races on the ballot.
MOTION: of Grendahl, seconded by Hooppaw, adopting Resolution No. 2012-216
canvassing the returns of the November 6, 2012, City General Election and
declaring that Tom Goodwin and Ruth Grendahl were elected Councilmembers for
four-year terms, each, commencing January 7, 2013. Ayes - 5- Nays - 0.

MOTION: of Bergman, seconded by Grendahl, to adjourn. Ayes - 5- Nays - 0.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:40 o'clock p.m.
