HomeMy WebLinkAbout04/16/2013 MINUTES OF LEBANON CEMETERY ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING Apri116, 2013 - 2:00 p.m. Apple Valley Municipal Center COMMITTEE MEMBERS PRESENT: Tim Anderson, David Brueshoff, Tanya Grawe, Jay Hoekstra, Dave Kemp, Alan Kohls COMMITTEE MEMBERS ABSENT: Nancy Ariderson OTHERS PRESENT: Ron Kohls, Resident Public Works Director Todd Blomstrom Cemetery Supervisor Mike Glewwe Cemetery/Public Works Coordinator Jean Bryant The meeting was called to order at 1:57 p.m. City Clerk Pamela Gackstetter administered the oaths of office to Tanya Grawe and Jay Hoekstra. APPROVAL OF AGENDA MOTION: of T. Anderson, seconded by Kemp, approving the agenda for today's meeting as written. Motion passed unanimously. AUDIENCE —10 MINUTES TOTAL TIME LIMIT FOR ITEMS NOT ON THIS AGENDA Attendees introduced themselves. Committee Members Grawe and Hoekstra were welcomed to the Cemetery Advisory Committee. APPROVAL OF MINUTES — January 15, 2013 MOTION: of Kemp, seconded by Brueshoff, approving the minutes of the January 15, 2013, meeting as written. Motion passed unanimously. NEW/CONTINUED BUSINESS Appointment of Committee Members The updated Council, Commission, and Committee Members list was distributed. Election of Officers MOTION: of Hoekstra, seconded by Brueshoff, opening the nomination for officers. Motion passed unanimously. Chair Kohls asked for nominations for Chair and Secretary. Committee Member Kemp nominated Alan Kohls for Chair. There were no other nominations. Committee Member Kemp nominated David Brueshoff for Secretary. There were no other nominations. MOTION: of Kemp, seconded by T. Anderson, closing the ' nominations for the election of officers. Motion passed unanimously. MOTION: of Kemp, seconded by T. Anderson, appointing Alan Kohls Chair and David Brueshoff Secretary of the Lebanon Cemetery Advisory Committee for 2013. Motion passed unanimously. Activity Report Ms. Bryant reviewed the Lebanon Cemetery Activity Report for first quarter. There were 10 sales, 11 burials, no title changes, 3 transfers, and no returns to the cemetery. Maintenance and Grounds Mr. Glewwe reported that first quarter maintenance consisted of plowing snow, filling in settling gravesites, picking up some unapproved items, and changing the flags. Purchase of Additional Land Mr. Blomstrom updated the committee on the purchase of additional land. A purchase agreement has been signed for approximately three acres to the east of the current cemetery. A Phase I environmental study was completed, and nothing of concern was found. Payrnent for the land will come from the Cemetery Fund. "City Hold" Lots Ms. Bryant presented the committee with staff's suggestions for removing certain burial lots from the inventory due to underground electrical lines and irrigation piping, trees, or proximity to the road where space is needed for snow storage. The committee also reviewed certain lots to be returned to the inventory as they no longer need to be held for future work. MOTION: of Brueshoff, seconded by Kemp, to delete lots and place hold lots for sale as illustrated in figures provided by Jean Bryant. Motion passed unanimously. OTHER BUSINESS Spring 2013 City News Article "Lebanon Cemetery of Apple Valley" was published in the Spring City News. ADJOURN MOTION: of Kemp, seconded by Brueshoff, to adjourn the meeting.
