ITEM #5.A.
Old Business - Re-Naming of Eastview Athletic Complex
City Council wants the committee to submit 3 name choices and a
justification for each name. They will have the final decision on the
name change.
Committee discussed the 5 names that were chosen previously. It was
narrowed down to 3 final names (in ranking order) as requested by City
Council. They are as follows:
2
1) AMERICAN LEGION PARK:
Justification: To honor a group that has done a lot for our
country, youth and City. They will help contribute money for
signage.
2) JOHNNY CAKE RIDGE ATHLETIC COMPLEX
Justification: Easy to find because of the road nearby.
3) SPRUCE RIDGE ATHLETIC COMPLEX
Justification: Pleasant sounding name and due to all the
spruce trees that are planted at park.
Mr. Johnson will submit the name change recommendation list in this
order to the City Council.
MOTION: Motion by Russ DeFauw, seconded by Tiffani Anglin to
submit to City Council the above name change list in

ITEM #5.B.
Old Business - Park Bond Update
Park Bond project bids for the Aquatic Center will open Wednesday, March
25, 1998 and bids for the Teen Center and Community Center Gym will open
Thursday, March 26, 1998.
Mr. Johnson commented that there has been a lot of interest in the
bidding and the Construction Managers had about 60 + calls from
contractors. Mr. Johnson will keep the committee updated via letter on
Friday, March 27, 1998 on the outcome of the bid openings.
Mr. DeFauw asked when the first new playground equipment will be
installed? Mr. Johnson estimates the end of April. Also asked what the
pecking order of installation will be for parks. Mr. Johnson commented
that it will go by the parks with the heaviest use (Farquar) and by
playground activities and then by parks with low usage.
Ms. Rankin suggested that the May Advisory Meeting be held at one of the
parks with the new equipment.
Discussion was held about Valleywood’s Ready Golf Program. Mr. Johnson
said that it was up and running. The public should not notice anything
different. It is like voice mail where you press 1 for reservations and
press 2 for a professional. If they press 1 it will direct their call
to someone at Ready Golf. Valleywood is ready to open but are waiting
for the frost to get out of the ground. Mr. Johnson anticipates end of
March or early April for opening.
