PRESENT: Committee Chair Greg Kopischke; Committee Members Charlie Maus, Tiffani Anglin, Royal Bakke, Russ DeFauw, and John DiRico (arrived at ; Parks and Recreation Director Randy Johnson. 7:20pm) ABSENT: Tina Rankin ITEM #1. Committee Chair Greg Kopischke called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. ITEM #2. Approval of Agenda. Request was made to add “Continuing Update on Season Passes at Valleywood under Item 6. MOTION: by Russ Defauw, seconded by Charlie Maus to approve the agenda with change. VOTE: Yes - 5, No - 0 ITEM #3. Approval of April 1998 Minutes. MOTION: by Charlie Maus, seconded by Tiffani Anglin to approve the minutes as presented. VOTE: Yes - 4, No - 0, Abstain - 1(D eFauw) 1 ITEM #4.A. Park Dedication Expenditure Request. Staff and Committee reviewed the memo from Randy Johnson included in the agenda packet. MOTION: by Russ DeFauw, seconded by Charlie Maus to recommend City Council approval of Park Dedication/Maintenance Fund expenditures of $77,355 as requested. VOTE: Yes - 5, No - 0 ITEM #5.A. Old Business - Re-Naming of Eastview Athletic Complex This item was tabled at the April 1998 meeting. Committee voiced their support of staff’s initial investigation of the American Legion’s potential interest level of a cash donation in exchange for the renaming of Eastview Athletic Complex to American Legion Park. Recognizing Eastview as a premier athletic complex and the implications of renaming the facility, MOTION: by Russ DeFauw, seconded by Royal Bakke to submit no additional recommendation for the Eastview Athletic Complex name change. Committee will defer the decision to City Council. VOTE: Yes - 5, No - 0 ITEM #5.B. Old Business - Park Bond construction update. Staff reports that construction of the family swim center and teen center are ahead of schedule. The Spancrete employee strike in April/May has resulted in about a one month delay in the Apple Valley Community Center expansion project. Installation of the play equipment is taking longer than originally projected, due to the lack of seasonal maintenance employees. The updated projection is to have the equipment installed by the end of summer, but the timber edging around all sites may take until November. ITEM #6.A. Other - Valleywood non-resident season passholders update. Randy Johnson distributed to the Committee copies of a letter written by staff and sent to all Valleywood season pass holders. Staff reports getting a few phone calls and letters from the public in regards to the change in season passes for 1999. Information on the season pass holder numbers and the men’s club was also distributed to the Committee along with copies of an e-mail message received at City Hall from James Tanner (resident of Eagan) and a draft of the City’s reply. 2 ITEM #7. Adjourn. There being no further business, the Park and Recreation Advisory Committee meeting was adjourned. MOTION: by Russ DeFauw, seconded by Charlie Maus to adjourn the meeting at 7:35 p.m. VOTE: Yes - 6, No - 0 * Meetings of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee wil be suspended until Fall 1998 unless issues arise that require Committee action during the next three months. 3
