CITY OF APPLE VALLEY FARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE April 19, 1994 Minutes of the Apple Valley Parks and Recreation Advi.sory Cammittee held April 19, 1994 at the Apple Valley Community Center. PitESENT: Ghairperson Greg Kopischke; Committee Members R4ya1 Bakke, Russ DeFauw (arrivt0 ot 6:ds o...1 John DiRico, David Gzoss, and Charlie Maus; Parks and Recreation Director Itandy Johnson. ABSENT: Tina Rankin and Laura Steadman. Item #1. Chairperson Greg Kopischke called the meeting to order at 6:40 p.m. Item #2. Approval of Agenda. Raquest was made to shift Item #4.A. Annual Photo to Che last item on the agenda and add Item #6.A. Memorial Tree Pianting. MOTION: by David Gross, seconded by Charlie Maus to approve the agenda with the requested changes. V02E: Yes - 5, No - 0 ITEM #3. Approval of March 1994 Minutes. MOTION: by Charlie Maus, seconded by John DiRico to approve the March 1994 minutes as presented. VOTE: Yes - S, No - 0 1 i � ITEM #4.B. New Business - Commission/Committee Recognition Program, Information Item - April 14, 1994 City Council authorizsd the Commission/Committee Recognition Program. Each member of the Park and Recreation Advisory Committee, Urban Affairs Committee ax�d Planning Commission will be allocated $720.00 of credit to be used toward park and recreation activities operated by Che City o£ Apple Valley as a way of saying "thank you" for the time and ef£ort these volunteers put in for the City of Apple Valley. The credit will be available for use by the Committee/Commission members and their immediate famiiy members. Randy Johnson will be contacting each Committee/Comrnission member by mail with a more detailed listing of available programs. In January, each member will be mailed a Form #1099 for tax reporting purposes. ITEM #S.A. Old Business - Athletic Complex Purchase. Information Item - All land sale details have been worked vut. The Gity will take possession of the first 32 acres December 31, 1994 and the final 40 acres will be obtained June 30, 2Q00. MeNamara has been paid in full for the entire 72 acres with the agreement that his operation will be allowed to continue gravel mining the final 40 acres unti2 the year 2000. Committee members offered their congratulations to Randy Johnson for his participation in handiing the iand purchase. ITEM #S.B. Old Business - Arena 2nd Sheet of Ice. Information Item - The City Council auLhorized the go ahead, by a 5 to � vote at the March 17, 1994 meeting, for the construction of the second sheet of ice in Apple Valley. The Apple Valley Hockey Associa�ion has contributed $10�,000 toward the construction. Bonestroa, Rosene, Anderlik and Assoeiates will be the project architects. The Park and Recreation staff have been working with the Sehool, District on the construction plans. The plans should be available for Committee review at the next meeting. The arena plans include a 100' x 200' olympic sheet of ice, permanent bleacher seating with storage underneath, fihe City of Apple Valley will be sole operator of the building. ITEM #6.A. Other. Rick Scheid (Connie Scheid's husband) has accepted the City`s invitatian of a memarial type service in Connie's honor. Connie's brother (from out of state) is also interested in attending. After some discu�sion, the following details were agreed upon: Invitations will be extended to Connie's family, Apple Valley Farks ar�d Recreation Advisory Committee members and Mayor and City Council c�embers to attend the ceremonial tree planting in Palomino Fark in memory Qf Connie Scheid, following the regular Parks and Recreation Advisory Gommittee 2 � • meeting of May 17, 1994. Randy Johnsan will ask the minister of Christus Victor Lutheran Church t4 say a few words at the ceremony also. The Park Department will construct a small tree marker stating "This tree planted in memory of Gannie Scheid." Refreshments will be available on site. ITEM #4.A. Annual Photo for Summer Brochure. The Committee members moved to the outdoor playground area to have their ghoto taken far the summer edition of the Farks and Becreation brachure. ITEM #7. - Adjourn. There being no further business on the agenda, tY�e Parks and Rserestion Advisory Committee was �d�ourned.
