So we will not meet on September 15th as we had planned. Our next meeting will be on October 6th at 7:00 a.m, at Carbone's. The following information will serve to update you on recent occurrences: 1. Park Bond Issues A. Athletic Fie1d Complex We finally got the water pumped out of the holding pond that had been blocked off. The pond after the "super storm" had enlarged to cover all of one soccer field and part of a second field. Due to legal, complications, the storm sewer had not been connected to the halding pond and to date the lawyers are still discussing drainage easements with the property owner on the west side of Johnny Cake Ridge Road. Until the easement is procured, we will continue to pump the pond to a near-by drain. Removing the water has enabled the irrigation contractor and the electrical contractor to begin working. We anticipate having the irrigation work completed by the end of September and the majvrity of electrical work done by Navember lst. The fencing bid is due next week and if we get a reasonable bid, this should be completed by November lst. We will seed in the Spring and should be open for play in the Spring of 1989. B. Hayes The project is moving along on schedule and we should see an April lst opening date. To date the quality of workmanship and materials has been very good. _ • Page 2 of 3 Sept. Park Committee Mtg. C. Redwood The contractor for the Redwood project has been moving very slowly. His workmanship has ranged from good to poor. We have had some concerns with the shingling job on the roof and we may require some areas o be redone before completion of this project. ` Completion date for the building is set for October Sth but I wouldn't be surprised to see a November lst date, even though we have a $50.00 per day liquidated damage clause. The pool bids are due to be opened on September 24th with work commencing on October lst. A completion date of May 15th, 1988 is projected. The money for the pool project, about $100,000 will come from park dedication funds as directed by the City Council. D. Apple Valley East All grading and seeding is complete. We will have a skating rink on this site this Winter and in Spring of 1988 we will finish the bllfielsl, volleyball court, etc. E. Belmont I have re-opened negotiations with the property owner (Frantc Kleckner) of the approximate one acre of land adjacent to the existing park. We hope to acquire this parcel and expand the park to include a playfield. F. Existing Park Improvements Tennis court lights are in and operating at Scott and Hagemeister parks. Give them a try before the snow flies! 2. Other Items Of Interest A. Palomino Park is nearing completion. Grading is complete as is seeding, mulching and asphalt trails. We plan to install play equipment, volleyball court and basketball standards this Fall. B. New outdoor hockey rinks and lights at Hayes are underway. An electrical engineer has been retained to assist with design and lighting. The park maintenance crew will build one new set of.dasher boards to give us a total of three lighted rinks at Hayes Park this Winter. , Y Page 3 of 3 Sept. Park Committee Mtg. C. The "Second Ice Arena Committee" has been hard at work on a bond referendum. Gary Pietig and I have prepared a report on potential operation expenses and revenue projections. The Council will decide on September 24th if they will allow this issue to "go to the voters." The Committee is aiming for a November election. D. Summer Recreation Programs have a11 come to a close and things went very well. Especially popular this Summer was our Playground program. Attendance was more that doubled over 1986 numbers. E. Fall programs are now beginning to start and we see a very busy schedule ahead for the next three months. Please keep me posted on any feedback or new ideas you receive from the community. That is about it, but that's probably enough! Please stay in touch - I'l1 see you on October 6th. Sincerely, , / Randy J hnson Acting Director Parks and Recreation RJ/dp
