The questions that will need to be answered is, "What types of structures/facilities shouTd be included in garks to best serve the community?° Guests present indicatec that another SHEET of ICE is needed; perhaps it couZd be constructed as a joint venture with LakeviZle and Rosemaunt. Enough ice time cannot be obtained in Burnsville to make a difference in the present AV pragram. 4 facility a little less expensive than another arena could possibly be constructed--a bubble for example. The next bond issue wil have to include samething hocket. Jim Sheldan indicated the Community will age pretty quickly so we cannot s:t back and wait for facilities that are needed NOW. It would not he difficult to fully utilize another shee of ice; enough revenue would be generated to keep the facility in operation. The possibility of having ice year round at the AVHS was discussed. As tennis grows in popularity, it is necessary to provide facilities for them. It was indicated that the Gity is probably close to coming up with hockey schools and events during the summer months at the AVFiS Arena. Mr. Bill Vein indicated he feels that Eagan will have to build their own high school anc} ice arena. The planning process will begin in 19$7 once Eastview and Hayes are more in tact. Thinking should begin as to the desired location of the naxt athletic complex. How many more soceer and baseball fields are needed, for example. The desire is to get the programs out of neighborhood fields which were never designed for the use they are gett.ng (which negates pick-up type ball playing) . Should there be five to six tennis courts together in a lighted complex so that tournaments could be scheduled, etc. Mr. Don 2immerman indicated we are really short on soccer fiel@s for playing games and for practicing. Mr. Gurban indicated that he does not hold out too much hope for joint projects with School District #196 as they relate to buildings and , Y, gymnasiums. Joint projects involving playfields and play areas seem more acceptable. If the City builds the facilities, he would love to have the . - schools using them during day time hours with the City using facilities solely during the evening hours.
