�;LSCUSST��i OF VANDA.LISM IN THE PARKS:
Twa residents fram the Hae�emeister Park area� Ms. Sh�.rley �Qeri�g and Ms, Ramayna
Hasksamp� were present to �oice concerns aver abu�ive behani�r by ol.der children
in Ha���mei�ter. Ms. �ae�a.n� cited same of the problems which have occurred: a
bonfire 1it in tlte raninei a child bei.ng harrassed with the blunt �nd of a knife
and a seri�±s of on�Qa.ng problems. She said it is tcs the p4ar�t where no flne wants
to send their childrer� to Ha.egemeister. The damage to the warmsn� house alsa
distresses t�.em, Mr. 4�tah1 su�ge�ted that th.ese twa ladies �it down with Palace
Chief Rivers and tell him �:xactly what is goin� an in that Park. They were en-
coura�ed to immediately call the Police I3epartment when they see any type of
abtzsive behavinr« Ms« Milc�s told of the Kid Fatrol that her children alqn� wi�h
others in the Faith Park area are �'organiza.ngr' sa that the kids, themselves, �ax�
help protect th.e parks. She inv3ted them �.o come to a meetin� an Fra.day� June 1$
at City Hall, where Mr. Boyer af the Police �epartment wbu�.d be talki.ng with the
�ids and ir�structin� them �.n ways they can protec� the parks without harm tQ
�hemselves: Repr�sentat�.ve Radri�uez su��ested that p�,�haps the Po1i�e l3epartment
could eonduct a series of talks in various parks throu�haut th� �ity.
Ms. 13oering and Ms. Haskamp also sug�ested that it would be saf�r fo� thea.�
�hree and fn�r»year old ehildren a.f there were some addit�.nnal bars aeross
vario�zs pieaes of the play°equipment. Mr. Langager said that the �amrnittee
appreciated the�.r caneerns! but it must be considered that some of the lar�e
pieces of play equipm�nt are not desi�ncd for small children.
The Comrnit�ee expressed their appreeiation to these two cancerned citizens f�r
thear presence and ��.caura�ed them tcr return at any time and to a1�r� call the
Pol.ice I3epartme�t a.mmed�.ately when p�oblems accur.

'Vandalism--Ms. �i1os questioned whose responsibility it is td help cantrol
vandalism in the parks. She su�gested that at w4uld be helpful to
put ar�a�cles in the newspaper info�rm�.n� the ��neral publac of al�
the equ�.pment that is avaa,l.a�le �!d �tif the need ta h�lp s�op vandalis�.
She will talk with Officer Boyer regarding h�.� su��e�t�,ons concernin�
newspaper artieles and with Chief Rivers. She felt that p�t�pl.e must
be made aw�.re of the happeni.ngs in the parks.

A.ttendance o� Park Cc�mmittee M�mbers�a-Chairman �iae�ela passed c�ut she�ts indicatin�
th� participation of inembers aver �he past 18 mon�h�. He �.ndicated the
need tn reassess part2cipation; and a.f there were samething that needed
to be done to chan�;e meeting t�.mes in a�rder for the majority to be
presen.t �ach �ime� this chan�e ahauld be made. He sa�.d that ever� mem-
ber �ras via�le to tk�e committeE �and thea.r axzput wa� needed. �here were
only several meetin�s out c�f that peraod when ever� memia�r was present.
Mr. Lan�ager que�tianed the need a� meeting twice a month with the idea
of ineetin� less often and accc�mplishs.n� just as much. Chai�man Naegeli
and Ms. Milos both felt that even less wc�uld be accompl�.shed since there
could b� a two rnanth period �ae�'r�re a cc�rnmittee member may he present.

telephone �ust �rying to call a speciai rneeting than �o maintsin tl�e
tr�o meetin� a manth scheda�Ie. Ghairman Naegeli �a�.d that some years
agc� they had tried meetin� �ust Qnee a month� but they were unable t�
re�e�G a handle�� an issues wish �ust ox�e meeting. Gaing to twc� meetings
enabled them to be ab].e to infarm those who f+�ua�,d 3t necessary to miss
c�ne qf the meetings what was happenin� and also it ,�ave all camma.ttee
m�mb�rs 3nformation of what was r�al.ly happenin� in the parks.
Chairman Ptae�eli just requested �ha� each member reasses hi�: participa.��
tion espec�.ally at this critical time when the band issue is nearin�
completion.
Resignatic�n of h�r. Langa�er--Mr. Lan�a�er i�adicated that he had been thinkin� for
som� time abaut hi� need to res3.�n sance he ha� been uanable to attez�d
meetin�s as regularly as he wished. His p�eit�,on wi�h Scho�l �is�rict

jcrb and membership on the cc�mmi�tee had become a�, impassibl� ta�k.
Chairman Nae�ela asked that h� reccsn�ider his �.�ci�a�4n;but if that �r��
not po�sib3.e� he unclerstood be�'�use a� Mr. I���a�errs demanding positian
Chaa.rman Nae�e�.i th�,nked him far his valtze ta th.e �ommitte� and
expressed the need for cQnsult�.ng with him from ta.me ta ta.me on matt�rs
in wh�.ch he could o���r his ��ert adv�.ce. Ms. Milbs and Ms. Gute�kauf
