HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/11/1981 . • CITY OF APPLE VALLEY PARK COMMITTEE MEETING AUGUST 11, 1981 PRESENT: Doug Dahlen, Ellen Milos, Bob Naegeli, Virgi;nia Sterling, Terry Langager and Mike Bassett ABSENT: Rita Gutenkauf and Dave Miller The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. Minutes from the July 21, 1981 neeting were approved as corrected. 1. Review bids on park a�phalt work. Mike Bassett reviewed the bids on the park asphalt work that were received on Thursday, August 6. Memo (attached) from the City Consultant Engineer was reviewed by the Committee. The park development program included $48,600 for additional asphalt work. The bids received totaled $47,770 less $10,132 that will be funded from LAWCON monies for the parking lots at Farquhar, leaving a total expenditure from the bond fund of $37,638. That price also includes $10,000 of paving work at Alimagnet and $3,923 of paving at Hayes Community Center both of which were put on hold by the Park Committee. MOTION: By Bob Naegeli, seconded by Terry Langager, to approve the low asphalt bid including the installation of the additional aspha.lt work at Hayes Community Center and at Alimagnet Park. Motion unanimously approved. 2. Review Park Construction Program - Bassett reviewed the progress being made on the play equipment installation and noted that the installation crew will be expanded towards the end of August so that two distinct crews will be installing play equipment. He was cautiously optimistic that a large majority of the equipment will be installed by November 1. However, some additional equigment will be installed in the Spring as well as finishing up the play perimeters, installation of sand, benches, etc. The new drinking fountains approved in the development program have not been ordered but will be ordered this Fall for installation next Spring. Mike Bassett informed the Park Committee that this would be his final Park Committee meeting in that he would be going to work as Director of Park Operations with the Minneapolis Park Board. V. Sterling in behalf of the Park Committee, tha.nked him for the time and effort spent with the Park Committee in the past and wished him well in the future. 3. Other Items by Committee - Dahlen asked when swings would be installed at Diamond Path and Bassett responded in the near future. The question was asked whether the new picnic tables could be marked some way so that they are less vulnerable to be carried off. Bassett responded that it � � PARK COMMITTEE MINUTES August 11, 1981 Page - 2 is the intent of the Park Maintenance Department to bug a stamping set to affix inventory number and possibly a park symbol to each table. Bob Naegeli mentioned that possibly the Park Committee should consider the subject of park security lighting in the future. Bassett noted that it might be wise to have John Gretz attend that meeting so that he can appraise the Committee of the long range costs of lighting with respect to electrical charge, vandalism, maintenance, etc. Bassett indicated that it has not been determined wh.o will be attending Park Committee meetings from the Staff but when it is known, Ginny Sterling wi11 be contacted to discuss upeoming Park Committee activities.
