ABSENT: Denis LaComb and David Miller. Chairperson V. Sterling called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. Minutes of the September 2, T980 meeting were approved as mailed. PLAY EQUIPMENT UPDATE A revised and updated list of all the parks and the play equipment spe¢.ifications for each park was submitted. Bids will be open October 14 for play equipment, with advertising conducted cur- rently according to proper time specifications. PARK DISCUSSION Cobblestone: Trail connections installed by developer (Palomino) and city were discussed with the following results: RECOMMENDATION: by R. Gutenkauf, in order to obtain a total connection of city and developer paths, it is requested that developer connect the path off 138th circle to adjoin city' s path. This con- nection is in lieu of the path planned for 140th. UNANIMOUS Chaparral Park: R. Gutenkauf suggested the park be graded for some open play, keeping in mind the area is not large enough for regulation sports fields. It was suggested the sumac and some trees be removed, retaining a border of trees, and grade to provide an open area for informal play. Discussion as follows: The committee's 1977 minutes included requests of this type for Chaparral , therefore, the situation has been previously considered and discussed by the committee. Maintenance may be a problem because of the grade. The only solution seems to require extensive grading which would further cut down the size of the play area--approximately one-half the size of the Pennock area, for comparison. Some play equipment could be installed in the lower end of the park. The open area would provide a play spot for 10-14 yrs. , thus keeping the tot lot open for youngsters. The question being whether the expenditure of approx- imately $3,000-5,000 to provide an informal play area is feasible. RECOMMENDAION: Grade Chaparral Park for informal play area at the present time. YES - 1 NO - 3 OTHER DISCUSSION: Valley Middle Park grading is incomplete due to rainy weather and it will be necessary to regrade. Next scheduled meeting will be October 7--7:00 p.m. Meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
