PARK COMMITTEE MEETING
APRIL 15, 1980
PRESENT: Vice-Chairman Ginny Sterling, Robert Naegeli, Carolyn Rodrigues and
Park Director Mike Bassett
ABSENT: Joe Bell, Joanne Hollenbeck, David Miller, Ellen Milos
A quorum was not present to conduct business so the members present
discussed the following items.
1. ARBOR DAY PROGRAM - It was determined by the members present that it would
would be exceedingly difficult to conduct any effective Arbor Day Program
in 1980 due to the tight time constraints plus the park development program
that will be underway.
2. PARK DEVELOPMENT - Mike Bassett indicated that InterDesign, Inc. had a cost
estimator give them figures on the proposed two shelter buildings and costs
are considerably higher than what is budgeted. For the semi-earth shelter
structures the cost is coming in at $60,000 to $80,000. Bob Lambert of
InterDesign and Bassett are working on the costs in an effort to reduce the
overall building costs or come up with an alternate design. It was determined
that any decision on the buildings would be held until the park development
bids are received on April 28 to determine if there are any excess funds that
might be used on the buildings.
Over 30 sets of plans have been picked up from the offices of InterDesign, Inc.
by contractors interested in bidding the job so at least it looks like the
quantity of bidders will be quite high.
3. FUTURE MEETING DATES - The members present discussed the possibility of going
with one evening meeting and one day meeting throughout the summer. The day
meeting would be for the purpose of reviewing construction progress in the
parks. This item will be discussed at a future meeting when a quorum is present.
4. OTHER ITEMS - The committee members present felt it was extremely important
that members call the Park and Recreation Office if they cannot attend a meeting
so that if a quorum is not present the meeting can be cancelled.
The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 6, 7:00 p.m.
The construction bids for the park development program will be opened on Monday,
April 28th, 2:00 p.m. at the Apple Valley City Hall. Any Park Committee member
who is interested in sitting in they are welcome.
Meeting adjourned.
