HomeMy WebLinkAbout03/25/1980 • i CITY OF APPLE VALLEY SPECIAL JOINT PARK COMMITTEE/CITY COUNCIL MEETING MARCH 25, 1980 PRESENT: Chairma.n Joe Bell, Committee Members Bob Naegeli, Carolyn Rodriguez, Councilmembers Marlis Overgard, Barbara Savanick, Park Director Mike Bassett and Harold Skjelbostad of InterDesign. ABSENT: Dave Miller, Joanne Hollenbeck, Ginny Sterling, Ellen Milos, Mayor Garrison, Councilmembers Bill Holton & Dianne Kelly. Bell opened the meeting by stating that this joint Park Committee/City Council meeting was arranged to provide information to the Council regarding park development plans prior to Thursday's Council meeting. Harold presented the plans and explained the grid and what the symbols represent. Overgard asked if this was a good time to go to bids or wait for possible lower bids. Harold said it wouldn't make any difference, inflation could get worse. Contractors have already shown a great deal of interest:. Question was asked how the bid would be let, entire project or individual. Harold explained that it would be let to a general con- tractor and individual projects would be sublet. Question was asked when we could expect to break ground. Harold said there would be a three week bid period and approximately two weeks before it would get to City Council sa things could begin happening by late May or early June. We can reasonably expect the site work to be completed this season. Bassett mentioned the option to purchase additional land at Belmont. He stated that soil borings were conducted last week and the results should be coming back sometime this week. Carolyn noted that basketball hoops and backstops were not included. At a previous Committee meeting these - had been omitted. Harold was instructed to add these items back in at all existing parks. Game courts should be completed with hoops. Bassett asked the Committee to take a closer look at Cobblestones play area location. The Committee will take a walk through the area again in April. Diamond Path Park Building not included in this phase. All light- ing, buildings, etc will be included in Phase II. (Savanick arrived at 8:45). A security ,light should be added at Faith Park, No hockey is planned at Farquar, grade to flat surface for future. Priority item is to have a1L parks named by June so signage can be accomplished. Bassett spoke of a new process rather than routering signs. Possible diseased wood could be used for park signs. Harold asked if a water fountain is still included at Heritage Park. Both water lines are under the street. Hagemeister will have a small shelter building constructed and parking - for approximately 20 cars. Moeller Park - church offered parking in their lot for free skating. Parking at Keller will be controlled and shrubbery planted to please the homeowner. Long Lake Park minimal grading, play area, clearing and grubbing. Longridge - hold on plans and wait for development. Add basketball hoop at Duchess. • • Park Committee Minutes March 25, 1980 � Page - 2 Discussed tables and benches - whether Gity would build or buy from manufacturer. If built and installed by City staff we could realize a savings of 10-12%. Al1 play pieces and fountains are included with , this bid. Redwood North will have sewer and water tie-in for the flower gardens. Redwood South, add to existing water. Valley Middle - addition of two tennis courts. Barbara asked about regrading the catch basin. Mike will check with Keith Gordon to see if it can be raised and filled. Include a surveilance light at Walnut Park for security purposes. Hayes Field - Coordinate or check with V.A.A. for irrigation and lighting. These fiel'ds have high use both by youth and adults. Signs are high priority. Wildwood needs signage - public not aware this is public park. Rodriguez questioned the Greenleaf IV plan stating that it is incorrect. Harold made a note to have the new plan inserted tiefore the Thursday Council meeting. Harold also mentioned there are 16 major bid items. Al1 items will be up-to-date by Thursday. Meeting adjourned at 9:50 p.m.
