The Committee discussed criteria for naming the parks. Th.ey decided that
the park names could be based on three ifferent areas of interest.
1. Historical Events - For example the Bicentennial event; a park could
be named Bicentennial Park.
2. Historical Names - Early settlers -- 1900 to 1977 - it should be noted
the length of time that the name has been associated with. the area or
property {this should be determined)o It was noted th.t Apple Valley
was a grass roots community and there were not enough people living
here to be significant in major history. . They were mainly pioneer
faiailies.
' 3. Service to the Community - years of service needs to be considered and
a num'uer needs to be determined.
Carl Mitchell suggested making a list of all the people that have
served the cammunity. It was suggested that each. member compile a
list of names prior to the next meeting.
The Committee felt that they need to work with the Park Committee regarding
the criteria.
There was some discussion on Tndian Names. Agnes Scott will contact Mr. A1
Houston in Waterford regarding same of the historical Indian namese "
Marlene Romain ivi31 contact Park Committee Chairman Joe Bell regarding a_
joint meeting to work out criteria for naming the parks.
Meeting was adjourned,
