 PARK COMMITTEE MINUTES
OCTOBER 30, 1979
PRESENT: Chairman Joe Bell, Committee Members: Ginny Sterling, Carolyn Rodriguez,
Ellen Milos.
ABSENT: Bob Naegeli, Joanne Hollenbeck, Mike Bassett (Dave Miller arrived at 7:40)
Chairman Bell called the meeting to order at 7:15 p.m. Minutes from the October 16,
1979 meeting were not available. The next meeting date is November 6 at 7:00 p.m.
and another date scheduled for November 20 at 7:00 p.m.
1. Discussion of Meeting with InterDesign - The Park Committee wishes to meet
again with InterDesign on November 20 and discuss only the developed parks.
Joe Bell stated that he is generally upset with the whole proposal of Inter-
Design, all. the time and dollars spent on re-concepting the concepts. He
feels they have proposed too much that we don't need and can't afford. Carolyn
Rodriguez still protests the paths through the center of tot lots.
POINTS AGREED ON BY THE PARK COMMITTEE
1. That we have finished plans that show the park finished, within it's
allotted budget, with items determined by the Committee prior to election.
2. The Committee does not like to try and assess all parks in one night.
. It is unreasonable to expect input immediately when force-fed - too con-
fusing - want to see the actual, not the possible.
3. Would like less technical jargon and more straight presenting. The
Committee was not snowed, in spite of the effort.
4. Where are the soccer fields - cannot co-mingle with baseball.
5. Do not feel bleachers are needed everywhere. (Dave Miller arrived) .
6. Palomino Hills area needs: (a) Flat, open area for neighborhood games,
(b) Tennis court.
7. Lighting for Galaxie Park promised for this year.
8. Waste of taxpayers dollar to move tot lots and game courts. Also want
picnic tables and benches, not $30,000 stumps.
9. Would like to see corrected plan of Hayes Field Park.
The Park Committee is basically dissatisfied with the performance of Inter-
Design. So far, the Committee feels they have not been involved in the process '
of planning as promised. The 29 park plans presented at the last meeting were
not what the Park Committee wanted or expected. They feel that InterDesign is
often too ambitious in their scope and concept - ma.ny times plans didn't present
. an understanding of community and financial realities or a real understanding
of children. Refer to "points agreed on" for the rest of the items the Park
Committee would like to discuss.
