HomeMy WebLinkAbout10/16/1979 • � CITY OF APPLE VALLEY PARK COMMITTEE MINUTES • OCTOBER 16, 1979 PRESENT: Chairma.n Joe Bell, Park Committee Members: Ginny Sterling, Ellen Milos, Carolyn Rodriguez, and Park Director Mike Bassett. ABSENT: Bob Naegli, Dave Miller and Joanne Hollenbeck. 1. Chairman Bell called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m. 2. Minutes of the October 16, 1979 were corrected to read "Carroll Farm Park should not be expanded beyond the 16 dedicated acres" per Rodriguez statement. Minutes of the October 16, 1979 meeting were approved as corrected. 3. Chairman Bell turned the meeting over to representatives from Inter-Design. They ha.d a slide presentation on 29 of the 33 parks showing the existing parks and their design development. Questions and concerns were as follows: Scott Highlands - Grading done. Galaxie - Warming house moved, hockey rink complete except for lights. Newell, Greening, Keller, Pennock, Duchess and Redwood South. Sterling expressed concern about moving play area in Redwood South and cost involved. Rodriguez questioned trail system throughout entire park plans. Tn many areas trail appears too close to play area, believes safety a concern. • Redwood North - plantings and few major changes. Picnic Tables vs stumps. Westview - Milos questioned irrigation, number of acres and cost. Also would like to see berm or buffer along the south border to give the homeowners privacy. Rodriguez questioned the number of ball fields and how many lighted. Chaparral - much discussion for open area to give Palomino Hills residents ballfield. Rodriguez questioned the construction of 35E and whether it would affect drainage. Cedar Knolls - concerned with parking lot and visibility. Nordic, Greenleaf, Findlay Way, Faith and 139th Street - Concern again with trail structure through parks, remove from active play area. 131st Park - Concern with lighting in close residential area. Long Lake, Farquar - Bell opposes beach area. Pre�er more picnic tables than natural stumps. Diamond Path, Apple Valley East - Plan for natural earth structure in Diamond Path - questioned heating, lighting, etc. Rodriguez believes parks are necessary now, as the puhl•ic ,.voted �or, not 10 years hence.Sterling would like to see parks that look finished, the need is immediate, not entire park potential. Be11 questioned the timetable. InterDesign would prefer February bid date. Cha.irman Bell thanked InterDesign for their presentation. 3. Burnsville joint meeting tentatively scheduled in November. The Apple Valley Park Committee will meet again Tuesday, October 30th at 7:00 p.m. Mike Bassett • wi11 not be available. Next Park Committee meeting on November 6 at 7:00 p.m. with Carroll Farm representative. 4. Meeting adjourned at 10:45 p.m.
