Minutes of the regular meeting of the Lebanon Cemetery Advisory Committee of Apple Valley,
Dakota County, Minnesota, held October 21, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at Apple Valley Municipal Center.
PRESENT: Nancy Anderson, Tim Anderson, Tanya Grawe, Jay Hoekstra, Dave Kemp,
Alan Kohls
ABSENT: David Brueshoff
City staff inembers present were: Public Works Director Todd Blomstrom, Cemetery Supervisor
Mike Glewwe, and Cemetery/Public Works Coordinator Cheryl Groves.
1. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 2:00 p.m. by Chair Kohls.
2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
MOTION: of Kemp, seconded by T. Anderson, approving the agenda for today's meeting as
written. Motion passed unanimously.
3. AUDIENCE — 10 MINUTES TOTAL TIME LIMIT FOR ITEMS NOT ON THIS AGENDA
There was no one present to speak.
4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES — July 15, 2014
MOTION: of Grawe, seconded by N. Anderson, approving the minutes of the October 21, 2014,
meeting as written. Motion passed unanimously.
5. NEW/CONTINUED BUSINESS
A. Activity Report
MOTION: of N. Anderson, seconded by Hoekstra, accepting the Activity Report for Third
Quarter. Motion passed unanimously.
B. Maintenance and Grounds
Mr. Glewwe reported that routine maintenance included leveling and seeding burial sites,
fertilizing, general cleanup, and additional watering due to the dry weather. An irrigation
controller damaged by lightning will need to be repaired or replaced. Fall work to be done
includes shutting off the water hydrant, cutting back plantings, wrapping trees, and the
replacement of several trees.
C. Volunteer Thank-You Cards
Committee members signed thank-you cards to be sent to the 2014 volunteers. Their
assistance in the care of plants and picking up debris is greatly appreciated.
General Price List Update
MOTION: of Kemp, seconded by T. Anderson, approving the proposed changes to the General
Price List and recommending that staff submit the proposed General Price List to the City
Council for their approval. Motion passed unanimously.
D. 2015 Meeting Schedule
MOTION: of Hoestra, seconded by Grawwe, to accept the 2015 meeting Schedule as
proposed. Motion passed unanimously.
E. Potential Changes to Cemetery Regulations
Ms. Groves presented the proposed change that would allow two cremains to be interred at
the same time in an outer cremation container within a Traditional Grave Lot. The number
of burials and markers allowed would remain the same, and a right of subsequent burial
would apply.
MOTION: of T. Anderson, seconded by N. Anderson, approving the proposed changes to the '
Cemetery Regulations and recommending that staff submit the proposed Cemetery
Regulations to the City Council for their approvaL Motion passed unanimously.
F. COMMUNICATIONS / UPDATES
Members reviewed the article in the Fa112014 CityNews.
6. OTHER BUSINESS
A. Nancy Anderson requested that the Cemetery Tour following the adjournment of the July
2014 Cemetery Advisory Meeting be noted in the minutes. Alan Kohls provided historical
information about Lebanon Cemetery while conducting the tour for committee members.
7. ADJOURN
MOTION: of Kemp seconded by T. Anderson, to adjourn the meeting. Motion passed
unanimously.
