URBAN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE MINUTES
November 17, 1977
PRESENT: George Hecker, Hank Myers, Dick Edwards, Jim Ronay, Dorothy Regis.
ABSENT: Bill Smith and Joan Goering.

Chairman Hecker called the meeting to �rder. �
In checking with the League of Municipalities it was reported that they could
find no information where any City in the Metropolitan Area regulated the size
of the American Flag or location unless it effected the health, safety, and
welfare of the citizens, The Minnesota Statutes 609.4� in reference to fTags
was reviewed and the Committee found no reason that a restriction could be
placed on the size.
It was noted that there was some concern regarding the placement of the flag
pole at Perkins Restaurant and members of the Comnittee drove by the area
to observe. There was some feeling that the pole is extremely close to the
intersection, however, because of its height they did not see a site problem.
Nank Myers suggested moving the flag pole to one of the "islands° in the
parking area, however, they do have lights on them.
Jim Ronay suggested that a memo be drafted to the City Council noting that
the Committee does not see the hazard or any reason for not allowing the
flag and flag pole at Perkins.
Attached is a copy of the proposed memo which will be reviewed at the Urban
Affairs Corr�nittee Meeting on December 1, 1977 at 7:30 and subsequently
forwarded to the City Council .
The Committee will begin work on suggestions, etc. for the Weed Ordinance
at their next meeting.
