CITY OF APPLE VALLEY
URBAN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE MINUTES
July 21, 1977
PRESENT: Dorothy Regis, George Hecker, Hank Myers, Dick Edwards, Bill Smith.
Chairman Hecker called the meeting to order.
George passed out copies of a memo he received from John Gretz and a ey of two
letters (a letter of complaint in reference to the game machines at 7-11 and Mr.
Gretz's response) . The Committee reviewed the above mentioned documents (see
attached) .
George stated that he spoke to Mayor Branning the other evening and he suggested that
the Committee pursue licensing of the game machines and regulate them so they cannot
be allowed in the residential area and fast food stores. The ordinance could allow
them only in game rooms.
There was considerable discussion in the regulation of the game machines; wht
types of problems they are causing in the 7-11 Store, etc.
The Committee asked to have copies of ordinances secured from the League of
Municipalities and sent to them. (See attached information) . It was also suggested
that Mr. Gretz be asked to attend the next meeting. (Note: Mr. Gretz will be
in attendance at the next meeting.)
he committee members decided that they would discontinue work on the massage parlor
ordinance until they have completed the referral in reference to the Game Ma.chine
Ordinance received from the City Council.
Members of the Committee decided to meet twice during the month of August to pursue
the Game Machine Ordinance. The Next meeting will be August 4, 1977 at 7:30 p.m.
Dorothy Regis stated that she recently had an opportunity to review her abstract on
her home and their are Restrictive Covenants on the property that say that you cannot
ha.ve abandoned cars in your qard. She mentioned this to the Coimnittee as at one time
Dennis Boston was interested in pursuing an ordinance to prohibit abandoned and junked
vehicles.
There was further discussion in relation to the Game Machine Ordinance and how much
regulation would be desireabl as well as the licensing procedure. Hecker suggested
a license fee of $50.00 for the first machine, and $25.00 for each additional machine
annually. The committee will pursue this ordinance at their next meeting.
Meeting adjourned.
